Rob kept his election promises to control growth, catch up on community facilities and shift costs of growth off local taxpayers.

A PROMISE KEEPER

  • Rob and Council unanimously passed a new Official Plan that protects our neighbourhoods, limits growth to designated areas, preserves lands for natural areas, and sets aside land for job creation.

  • Rob and Council are adding 775,000 square feet of long-overdue community facilities to the Town’s previous inventory of about 1.15 million square feet. This is in addition to half a dozen new or redeveloped parks and more than a dozen sports fields, with more to come.

  • Rob and Council unanimously voted to raise development charges 60%, to the legal limit – which shows how much revenue we were going without before this term.

  • Rob and Council cut the town debt paid for by you the taxpayer by almost 9%. The previous mayor had doubled it in her last six years.

A STRATEGIC LEADER

  • Rob's unanimously adopted control by-law prohibited power plants while the Town developed appropriate planning rules for them. At the Ontario Municipal Board hearing that upheld the by-law, it was called, “exactly the right action, at exactly the right time.”

  • We won consistently at the OMB this term (another change for the better with Rob).

  • Rob has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities, especially those working with the most vulnerable members of our community, to strengthen our social safety net.

  • Rob and Council unanimously created a 4-year strategic work plan. Then, they delivered: it’s now 95% done.

  • Oakville is moving forward with: award-winning master plans for job creation, urban forestry and heri tage; air quality and health protection; grid-based transit; faster fire response times; smoother roads and more GO parking, all by unanimous Council votes.

A TEAM BUILDER

  • Rob and Council made almost every decisoin unanimously because they listened to each other, parked party labels at the door, and always thought of the whole town.

  • Rob listens. He improved and expanded public consultation to make better decisions, with broad support.

  • Rob created a monthly Community Leaders Roundtable. Leaders of residents groups discuss issues and look for consensus solutions that work for all.

A CAREFUL MANAGER

  • Rob and Council kept the rate of tax increases to lower than in Mrs. Mulvale's last 2 terms (2.67% per year vs 3.61%). And it was only 1.5% this year.

  • Rob and Council increased debt paid for by developers to build overdue infrastructure. Being against debt paid for by developers is the same thing as being against making developers pay for growth.

  • Rob and Council protected and kept our AAA credit rating. They made sure our cash reserves exceed all debt.

  • The Town will be able to pay for its donation to the new hospital by skillful financial management instead of by raising property taxes.

  • Rob also brought new business-style financial management to the Town: Performance Based Program Budgetting ("PB2"), the modern form of Zero Base Budgetting.

Rob’s vision is a more Livable Oakville. His focus is value. His aim is results. Another term as Mayor will keep Oakville moving forward.
